Start with a clear retail brief
Before requesting prices, define the target customer, sales channel, expected retail price, sock silhouette and approximate order quantity. A focused brief helps a supplier recommend realistic yarns, construction and packaging instead of quoting a product that will not fit your market.
- Target market and wearing occasion
- Required size range and fit direction
- Logo, artwork and color requirements
- Expected quantity per design and color
- Packaging and barcode requirements
Compare construction, not only price
Two socks that look similar in a photo may use different yarn counts, needle counts, cushioning, welt construction and reinforcement. Ask suppliers to describe the material composition, knit structure and critical measurements so quotations can be compared on the same basis.
- Yarn composition and hand feel
- Cushioning zones and thickness
- Heel and toe reinforcement
- Toe seam and cuff construction
- Finished measurements and tolerances
Use sampling as an approval checkpoint
A sample should confirm more than color. Review fit, stretch recovery, artwork clarity, logo placement, pair matching and packaging presentation. Record approved measurements and comments so the bulk order has a clear reference.
Confirm the complete landed program
Before production, confirm unit price, sample charges, packaging cost, carton quantities, lead time, payment terms and shipment plan. Clear approvals reduce last-minute changes and make repeat orders easier to manage.
